It was another exciting day of running at the 6th Annual Covington Eagles Invitational on Saturday with four races at the high school and junior high level hosted by the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagle 3998 at the 87.5 acre farm on N. Rangeline Rd. east of the scenic Greenville Falls west of Covington.
For the high school boys, Bennett Welborn led Covington with a runner-up finish in the time of 17:25.0. Covington had four more boys finish in the top 30 as Mic Barhorst (18:23.5) finished 15th, Owen Rawson (18:52.1) finished 23rd, Fletcher Metz (18:56.6) finished 25th and Zane Barhorst (19:12.7) finished 30th.
Pique’s Nolan Campbell won the race in the time of 16:52.9. The Buccaneer boys finished fourth out of 12 teams in the team standings with 95 points behind Piqua (66), Greenon (86) and Bethel (88).
The high school girls finished 9th out of 12 teams with Alexis Meyer leading the way with a time of 24:32.1, good for 31st. Allie Garman finished 34th with a time of 24:53.8 and Haley Hargrave finished in 36th with a time of 25:38.4.
The Covington junior high boys had a huge day by taking the top spot in the team standings with 41 team points, edging runner-up Russia (44 points). The Buccs had three of the top four runners on the day as Britton Miller finished first (11:24.2), Asher Long took second (11:42.1) and Michael Hagan placed fourth (11:42.8).
The junior high girls also had a strong day by placing 4th with 79 team points behind Russia (38), Miami East (59) and Piqua (75). Eliza Long led the way with a second place finish in the time of 13:18.1, while Johanna Welborn came in fifth in the time of 13:42.0.
Next Saturday the Buccaneer cross country teams travel to Spencerville for the Bearcat Invitational.
