The Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles would like to congratulate the Covington High School boys and girls track teams for their accomplishments at the 2018 OHSAA Track & Field Championships over the weekend.
The Covington girls, coached by Dave Tobias, finished state runner-up as a team by accumulating 32 team points. The 4×400 relay team of Breanna Kimmel, Morgan Lowe, Paige Boehringer and Rayna Horner won a state championship in a school record time of 3:56.71. The 4×200 relay team of Breanna Kimmel, Victoria Tyle, Morgan Lowe and Rayna Horner finished second with a time of 1:44.52, while Rayna Horner finished third in the 400 meter dash and Lauren Christian placed third in the shot put and seventh in the discus.
Jett Murphy won an individual state championship for the boys in the pole vault with a school record height of 15-feet. Cade Harshbarger placed third in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles, while the 4×400 relay team of Gray Harshbarger, Andrew Cates, Ty Freeman and Nathan Lyle took sixth in the time of 3:26.76. As a team, the Buccaneer boys finished seventh overall.
